Time to let the cat out of the bag…

If you’ll recall back in June, I wrote “Why Nutritional Dogma Dies Hard” and the Broscience graphic prompted several requests for a T-shirt to be made. Well, what ended up happening was me doing that – plus falling into a ridiculous creative catharsis.

Now, please don’t panic and think I’m switching careers. I’m not going to suddenly appear on Fashion TV next to Donatella Versace. This is a one-time eruption of artsy-ness, and now it’s back to the regularly scheduled fitness flogging. On rare occasion I might come up with a new design, and I’ll alert you each time that happens.

Click here to see what I’ve been brewing up.

Update: here’s a snapshot of what the page looks like now, I’ve put up 10 new designs since the initial announcement:

    Absolutely hilarious,

I especially like the “Caution: this is a moderation-free zone.” it could be the mascot for ‘monkey island’

I almost find myself angry… not b/c I didn’t sleep the entire week waiting for the next big product to replace whey but b/c I will end up using all the money I use for supplements and food to buy your rather amusing/creative clothing line. Your creativity will cause me to lose excessive amounts of muscle. Thank you sir.

Genius idea, Alan! Make fun of the fitness industry wherever you go, without saying a word. Those designs are fantastic, I think you might have to accept your new role as the Andy Warhol of Nutrition.

And to think I thought my days of man-whoring were over. Welp, time to turn a few more tricks so that I can fill my closet with such elegant nightwear.

What? No ‘night-time insulin fairy’ shirt?

    These are awesome.

  12. October 25, 2010

    Hey guys,

I’m glad you like the designs. I’m taking note of whatever ideas you have; I’m sure there’s some gold in the realm of insulin and placebo. Now I gotta catch up with my work-work.

  13. October 25, 2010

Please, don’t steal “clean eating is a scam” – I think I’ma put that on the back of my t-shirts!

Funny cos a while back, I was trying to look for a HFCS tshirt and ended up buying a Pepsi/ Coke tshirt. Now, now I know where to get ‘em Lolz! How about some giant Snake as a symbol of the Anacondie protocol ;)

Or a picture of a cartoony caveman holding a pot of grains then above that, there should be “Diet religion” as opposed to Buddha from True religion.

I don’t know if I like the cut of your jib, Alan, but I love the shirts. Pure awesome. My “Crossfit” buddies will love the “Lolzfit” shirts. I’ll buy in bulk.

I like the cut of these T-shirts’ jib. Awesome idea, really. Congrats.

  18. October 26, 2010

Awesome T-Shirts…esp the HFCS one. Since you’re taking suggestions, how about a graphic tee with a guy/gal licking a 9 volt to achieve the perfect acid/alkaline balance (not that ph isn’t important, but c’mon, man!?)? I found a priceless pic of this for my blog a while back and think it would make a great t-shirt.

Or maybe poke fun of the paleo people a little more?

    Great ideas for products!

    I love you Alan.

Make more fun of Paleo, please. Or maybe meal frequency, or some of the other myths Martin just debunked in his new article.

    Alan,

I see you’re being sneaky about telling us when you post new designs. I just ordered Biohazard Clean Eating. I’ve always thought that symbol would look cool on a shirt, but never saw the right message. The hazardous emissions context is perfect.

Thanks, and have fun getting some sleep AND finishing the next issue of AARR.

I am slightly disappointed that you offer sizing above and below medium. :-)

  22. October 26, 2010

LMFAO, you guys crack me up.

    Thanks for the compliments.

PS – I put 3 new designs up since I initially made the announcement. I’m done for a little bit, or I will never get anything done.

Okay, time to REALLY catch up with work.

Really impressive designs, Alan! Those are some great looking shirts, and with the holidays coming around, I know what to get for my nerdy friends. And my nerdy self. Right now I’m eyeballing the Pubmed shirt. I would be the life of the party at the university library.

  24. October 26, 2010

Ordered my broscience shirt today! Great stuff!

I came up with an idea. It’s basically about the people who believe everything a jacked guy says, just because he is jacked.

It might be hard to do because someone has to make the picture. I probably can’t make it myself, but I’m gonna try!

    Picture:
A pack of bro’s (like a pack of sheep) following the jacked leader slapping his hands on the bro drums strapped around his waist, and the music it makes is random broscience-quotes scattered around the drums. “♫Gotta shock that muscle, bro! ♪ ”

    Text:
“like sheep to the rhythm of the bro drums.”
The leader could have “Certified BroScientist” or maybe “Certified Bro Drummer” written on his shirt.

For more details you could add tupperware, fannypacks, musclemags, etc.

  27. October 27, 2010

Kenneth – Thanks for supporting inside jokes about the fitness industry. It’s a very charitable & noble cause. Eventually I’ll be able to pay an extra visit to In & Out Burger per week.

Patrick – I knew there was an essential meme missing from the lineup, and the Placebro Effect was definitely it. For those who haven’t seen this design yet, here it is.

All — Thanks again for the compliments!

PS — There’s a total of 4 new designs that have been posted since I made the initial announcement, so revisit the site when you get a chance.

  28. October 28, 2010

    Haha, these are great, Alan!

  29. October 28, 2010

They look good Alan. Big surprise, I never expected a line of shirts. John Davies, Founder of Renegade Training, has done well with his clothing line, hopefully you will be able to do the same.

I was looking forward to your religious doctrine. Maybe that will be a project for the near future.

Another I came up with, w/o picture this time. It’s a little biased, so it probably won’t be that funny if you haven’t played World of Warcraft.

    “Blessing of Bro Madness”
    - “Increases gullibility by 500%”

  31. Kenneth permalink
    October 28, 2010

I was about to buy one of the placeBro effect shirts but it does not appear to be offered in white. Is that because the text is in white? Usually the screen printers can print the text in another color on a white shirt. I will still have these on my list for birthday gifts regardless, but maybe let me know on the white shirt issue, because if it is not possible, I won’t hold up my order, in hopes of a white shirt appearing.

  34. October 29, 2010

Snorkelman — I’m just biased towards thinking the black on white didn’t translate as effectively for that particular design, but I just ran a comp & it looks pretty good. You’ll now be able to go here & see the white shirt options.

Holy crap Alan, those designs are schweet. Each design looks like an actual logo, not just a clever saying thrown on a shirt. Do you ever sleep? Seriously.

I rather like the bulking one, I might have to order it.

    How about this one:

“Science: It’s our best guess …”

    ;)

I just ordered Bulking in XL, of course. It will be well worn during my buffet visits and my heavy days at the gym. I’m probably going to get Certified Fitness Guru for my brother who knows nothing about nutrition, yet preaches his philosophies to anyone willing to listen. Or not.

  38. October 30, 2010

Rick — Thanks for the order, not that the shirts seem to run kinda big, so this will give you a little extra expansion room at the buffet.

Flux — Not a bad idea, I’ll see what I can come up with. Feel free to get the bulking shirt & let people know where they stand & what will happen if they get too close to you.

    Lol!

I’m a pussycat, you know that.

Seriously, though, despite my weakness for a little broscience, those designs are sharp. If I recall, despite being an egghead, you’re also a rock god, and now an artist. Nice balance. And kudos for not taking the latest job offer.

    Best,
    Flux

YES!! I gotta order just about one of each, esp. Broscience & Pubmed.

Two shirts I’d like to wear at my gym:

    “Yes, you’re doing it wrong”

“In fact, your form does suck”
